May snowstorms bring June horseshows

While we've been able to make it to a couple shows this spring, by far the majority of our plans have been rained/snowed out. It must be spring in Colorado, because it's raining now and we're expected to get 6-13" of snow between tonight and tomorrow. Outdoor horseshow this weekend? Perhaps if the wind REALLY kicks on and it warms up drastically to dry out the footing. We're supposed to be back in the 60s by the weekend, so who knows?

RMSC Show

I took a friend's 5 year old daughter in her first horseshow a few weeks ago - it was awfully cute!! I've never seen this kid so focused.

CSU Spring Fling Show

Cecil went to his first jumping show this weekend. He competed in a flat class (walk, trot, canter on the rail both directions), a hunter hack class (2 little jumps), and a schooling jumper class (an 8 jump course, up to 2'6"). He did SO WELL, my goal for the day was to expose him to the jumping arena and different types of fences, and to have him leave confident and happy. Mission accomplished! A very fun day. Also note the incredibly long tail Cecil is sporting - it may look like a really well done fake tail but it's the real deal. Unfortunately there are no pictures of Cecil jumping the fences at twice the necessary height - the little digital camera couldn't keep up with the dim lighting in the indoor arena. To top off the good vibes, the judge announced in front of all the competitors that Cecil was "BY FAR, the nicest mover here today". Cecil and I both left with swelled heads.
